Police in the district confirmed the incident stating it occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The thugs believed to be four in number were armed with panga knives.
Ntcheu police spokesperson told Capital FM that the thugs immobilized the watchman on duty by tying him up with ropes and then broke into the priest’s house.
Hastings Chigalu disclosed that cash amounting to over MK163, 000 was stolen besides two mobile phones and a laptop belonging to Father Atanazio Manyenga.
He added that currently a man hunt to arrest the unknown criminals has been launched.
Once arrested, the culprits will answer a charge of robbery with violence contrary to section 301 of penal code.
The incident comes amidst growing concern from the public over poor security in the country which is being manifested in the numerous robberies and murders.
