Thugs Murder Bicycle Taxi Operator In Malawi

Police in Malawi's Central region district of Ntcheu have launched a man hunt for thugs suspected to have murdered a bicycle taxi operator.

The taxi operator was found dead on Monday evening at Kandota village in the district.

Law enforcers have identified the deceased as Labani Afiki who was plying his trade at Kankawo Trading Centre in Balaka district.

Police said the deceased met with his fate after unknown person hired his bicycle asking to be ferried to Ntonda trading centre in Ntcheu.

Ntcheu Police spokesperson told Capital FM that a brother to the deceased alerted law enforcers after noticing that the whereabouts of his brother could not be traced.

Hastings Chigalu disclosed that the deceased body was found in a garden with his bicycle beside him but was stripped off his trouser.

"Two big stones were also found near his body in which police suspect to have been used in murdering him," Chigalu explained.

Postmortem conducted by medical personnel revealed that death was due to severe bleeding secondary to head injuries.

Labani Afiki 40, hailed from Lupanga village Traditional Authority (T/A) Msamala in Balaka district.

 

Meanwhile Police in the district is advising bicycle taxi operators to take maximum caution thereby observing time and distance whenever hired especially during night hours.
