Mzuzu high court bars Jumani Johannson

JumaniMzuzu high court bars Jumani Johannson from visiting properties of former president late Kamuzu Banda.

The high court in Blantyre has withheld its ruling until 2 o’clock this afternoon a case as in which the anti-corruption bureau wants former president Bakili Muluzi to take plea in the 1.7 billion kwacha corruption case.

During the proceedings, the defense team which includes Fahad Assani, Sheen Msusa and Jai Banda, begged the court that the case be adjourned until 5 October this year to allow Muluzi, who returns home today, to rest.

They also argued that the second co-accused in the case, Lyness Wiskey is travelling to Australia to attend her son’s wedding and that she will be back by the said date.

However the ACB’s Alex Nampota counter argued that if it is so then Muluzi’s earlier bail conditions should be revoked which means that the former leader should be in custody throughout the period of the trial.

However the presiding judge, Mac Lean Kwamwambe reserved his ruling until 2 pm.

The former president is accused of diverting donor money into his personal accounts between 1999 and 2004.

The case has stalled because of the former president’s poor health which has seen the case been adjourned on several occasions.

Muluzi is expected back home between today and tomorrow.

He was earlier expected to arrive home on 28th August and had he arrived, he could have taken the stand in the court today.
