In an attempt to maximize coverage of the HIV testing and counseling campaign (HTC) and reach out to the group which is vulnerable to the pandemic in the capital Lilongwe, the committee organising the campaign has extended the exercise to sex workers through mobile testing services.

The district council HTC committee chairperson Farida Kumwenda said “some health personnel and HIV councilors have dedicated themselves to conduct HIV testing for sex workers during the night targeting areas where they are mostly found.”

She explained that usually the group is ignored during such campaigns despite the fact that they are crucial to the reduction of HIV infection rate in the country.

Meanwhile, reports are rife that many men in the country are shunning the exercise.
