Over 2,000 fans attended the Fete de la Musique, also known as World Music Day free concert, at Warehouse Cultural Centre in Blantyre.

The Concert also acted as a prefect dessert for Malawians as they celebrated a Malawi’s National soccer team’s 2-0 victory against Chad.

Many Soccer fanatics returning from the Malawi-Chad match descended at the entertainment hub to jive at a concert organized by Alliance Francaise in Zambia alongside Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF).

Musicians, who had learnt of the Flames ‘win against Chad, complemented the victory by dishing out some songs applauding the national team for its success on the pitch.

Singer Phungu Joseph Nkasa was among the artists who changed his lyrics in his famous song ‘Zosayinasayina’ , and weaved in some lyrics for Chad’s loss attracting applause from the Mammoth audience.

Even legendary musician Lucius Banda who announced during the show that he was leaving the country for Ireland on Sunday for shows was not left out a he performed the song ‘Moto’, dedicating it to the Flames.

The headliners of the free concert were Lucius and Lilongwe based songster Sleffa Chomoto and his Real Sounds Band.

But fans had to be treated to performances from other musicians such as Nkasa , Paul Champhuka, Gotcha and Sam Simakweli who performed courtesy of public demand.

Fete de la Musique, took place for the first time at the Warehouse Cultural Centre as in the past it was being held at French Cultural Centre which closed last year.

Organisors of the concert expressed satisfaction on the performances of the artists and the turnout.

“Although there was a match, people came in large numbers to sample performance for free. Some even came after the game and this provided more fun for the victory. This gives platform to people to enjoy performances for free,” organizers said.

Lucius said he was excited to perform at the free event and called upon local companies to sponsor such events.

Lucius collaborated with his son Johnny in the song ‘Johnny’ and ‘Education.’

Malian singer Salif Keita also performed at the concert.
