South African Afro-Jazz star Zahara is planning to establish a Booming Flower Girls project aimed at inspiring young girls to take up music as a career.
The star said, through the project, she will be collecting guitars and sharing with girls who have passion for music to help them nurture and realize their potential.
Speaking to Capital fm in Lilongwe, Zahara said as a girl who has lived most of her life in a South African Village, she wishes to inspire more African girls who do not have the opportunity to shine, to make it big in their lives.
She was in the country on a Standard Bank sponsored trip to perform during their 42nd anniversary celebrations.
South Africa’s sensational Afro Pop musician Zahara left Malawian music fans, who attended her live performance in Lilongwe on Saturday, clamouring for more after giving an outstanding performance at the Joy of Jazz concert.
The concert had been organised by officials Standard Bank as part of the commemoration of 42 years of the bank’s operations in Malawi.
Our reporters say the fans started arriving for the concert at least three hours before its start at the President’s Hotel.
She performed up until after midnight and before her, it was the legendary Wambali Mkandawire who started the journey.
The bank’s Head of Marketing Linda Kachingwe-Sisya told Capital Fm that they were satisfied with the concert, saying the bank would be coming up with more of initiatives.
All is set for the Standard Bank’s Joy of Jazz concert scheduled for tomorrow in Lilongwe, as South Africa’s afro-jazz artist, Zahara is to arrive this afternoon through the Kamuzu International Airport.
The Bank’s head of marketing Linda Kachingwe Siska confirmed to Capital Radio.
Zahara, who is one of the Africa’s top artists of the moment, will perform at the president’s hotel during the concert organised by the Standard Bank.
The 24 year old became a top selling artist in South Africa after her album went platinum in a week’s time after release.
Some of her most popular songs include Loliwe, Ndize, and Lengoma.
The loliwe star is scheduled to share the stage with Malawi’s maestro Wambali Mkandawire.
More tourists are flocking to Majete Game Reserve in Chikhwawa to see the lions that were imported from South Africa, a move that is likely to improve foreign exchange earnings in the country.
Project Officer of the Game Reserve, Patricio Ndazera told the Malawi News Agency that there is a lot of excitement from both local and foreign visitors despite the hot weather in the lower shire.
Ndazera said the imported lions did not take long to adapt to the local weather and they are mixing well with other lions at the game reserve.
He said these lions will have a multiplier benefit to the country’s economic growth.
Malawi Government, under the Ministry of Tourism, imported the lions from South Africa mid August, this year, to boost tourism attraction in the country.
Tourism authorities have organized a two day Malawi Cultural Festival-MACFEST to be held from September 22 to 23 at Crossroads hotel and Civo stadium in Lilongwe.
The festival aims at building a sense of national pride, identity and unity amongst citizens.
In a statement, the director of culture in the ministry of tourism Elizabeth Gomani Chindevu say the festival is in line with the United Nations universal declaration on cultural diversity.
The declaration calls for countries to celebrate world day for cultural diversity, dialogue and development.
According to Chindevu, the event will also support the diversity of arts and artists and give them the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the event.
