This year’s Independence Day celebrations begun with a bang in Blantyre, with a parade held today by the Malawi Defense Force along the Masauko Chipembere highway.
Tonight Blantyre residents can expect pre-independence day celebrations, which include a fireworks display to be set off at Midnight.
They will be treated to a fireworks night courtesy of the Blantyre City Council.
Dubbed Independence Eve Fireworks Extravaganza, the event is set to be a celebration of Malawi’s 53 years as an independent nation.
It will take place at the Independce Arc which is a symbol of the Independence the country gained after being emancipated from British colonial rule 53 years ago.
Mizu Band, MDF Band and Mibawa Band are expected to entertain patrons on the night.
The climax of activities will be held of Thursday in Lilongwe, with interdenominational prayers and a football match between Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers at the Bingu National Stadium.
