3 UMP awards nominations for Janta

Lilongwe based musician cum producer, Janta, has received three nominations as votes pour in ahead of the 2015 Urban Music Party (UMP) awards gala this November.

The 4th edition of  the UMP is take place on November 8 at the BAT Ground in Blantyre.

Artists and content considered to have entertained Malawi and kept the urban music industry on the move between the months of October 2014 and last August have been nominated.

With two nominations apiece are singjay Nepman, rapper Gwamba and songstress Sangie.

Organised by Nde’feyo Entertainment the UMP awards seek celebrate urban music and culture in Malawi,

A total of 20 artists and content are up for an award in five categories namely Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Video of the year, Producer of the year and best new artist.

Unsurprisingly the whole list has two female artists in the names of Zani Challe and Sangie both of whom are new faces on the Malawian music scene.

With a Lifetime Achiever award which will be handed to Mafunyeta posthumously and Criminal A, the battle for the all but important Artist of the Year award involves Nepman, Gwamba and Sangie.

Sonye’s Tsika, Nepman’s Na Lero, Janta’s Divorce and Martse’s Mwano are appearing in the song of the year category

Janta & DJ Sley of Lilongwe and Blantyre’s Tricky Beatz are up for the Producer of the Year award.

Newcomers in the names of Sangie, Teddy, Black Nina and Tsar Leo are appearing in the Best New Artist category.

The video of the year category has Divorce by Janta, Ukudziwa Kale by Fredokiss featuring the Daredevilz, Ineyo wa lero by Gwamba featuring Lulu and Ndiphunzitse by Zani Challe.

Having being scrutinized by judges Kimpho Loka, James Gumbwa and Rex Chalenga, the winners will be announced in 14 days at an event that will feature live performances by more than a dozen of Malawi’s top urban musicians including Diktator, Piksy, BarryOne, Bucci, Blakjak, Home Grown African, Mafo, Trap Squad, Young Kay and Tech Dali.

Furthermore the award gala will feature spoken word, a dance face-off and an MC battle.
