A project is underway by the Malawi Council of Churches (MCC) to sensitise people on mining related issues in the country.

The project follows revelations of gaps in the access to mining information among members of the public.

The civil society also raised concerns that foreign investors on mining are not open in their dealings in terms of profit earnings taking advantage of the public’s lack of knowledge on policies.

The Tonse Tipindule project will be run in Ntcheu and Dowa districts with funding from the Tilitonse Fund through the DFID to the tune of over 42 million kwacha.

Speaking to Capital FM, MCC programme manager Godfrey Mkandawire says the project will help communities to access relevant information on the mining industry.
